My afternoon hike at Rosario featured a few minutes with a family of river otters. The group of six or seven started on the dock, moving to the water. A couple of the adults headed from water up the rocky shoreline, but ultimately all moved back into the water and slipped around the corner.

I was fortunate to encounter this seal on the edge of a bluff at Rosario this morning. Big! And so impressively agile under water. I had about two minutes of quality time before he departed for deeper waters.
I’m guessing most area parks were busy Tuesday as sunshine and spring break prompted people to get outside! What a day! A visit to Rosario Beach felt just like a summer excursion. Lots of folks, from hikers and kayakers to picnickers and beach walkers. Sun on the face, clear blue skies. Bring it on!
Of course I enjoyed the sweeping view of water from this Fidalgo Island bluff trail, but I also scanned the “floor” and “walls” for natural beauties. South Fidalgo, trail between Rosario and Bowman Bay.
I spotted the eagle first, and then a few minutes later noticed a kayaker approaching the rocks where it was perched. Kayaking and wildlife photography … a great combination! Gull Rock near Rosario.

One place led to the other, and before my Wednesday outing was over I had visited Rosario Head, Bowman Bay and the West Beach Cranberry Lake area of Deception Pass State Park. Had to take some photos of wildlife friends along the way. Hawk and geese surprised me with their patience.
