It must be October. These days my morning adventures on Fidalgo Island are wrapped in fog.
It is the season of fog, and the Northwest is still experiencing some level of smoke from wildfires to the south. Fog did not hamper the spirits of people yearning for outdoor experiences Saturday. At Rosario Beach, and again at Bowman Bay, adventurers ranged from hikers to families with children; from kayakers to scuba divers. […]

For a few glorious hours Monday we enjoyed blue skies. I ventured out to Rosario Beach and Bowman Bay, encountering a number of people who were also eager to see the sun, enjoy the fresh air. The couple pictured here at Rosario Head traveled from Bellingham. She grew up in Sedro-Woolley and as a child […]
My camera was my companion on a weekend outing, but as these photos show, many others opted to enjoy the sun and Fidalgo Island’s beautiful natural assets with companions.
I always enjoy seeing harbor seals. I was concerned when this seal swam into surf just offshore, actually worried that the waves were smashing it into jagged rocks and doing physical damage. Someday we’ll look back on photos like this in our family albums and ask: “What the heck?” This masked couple spent part of the day Saturday enjoying the tide pools at Rosario Beach. COVID-19 restrictions, first put in place in March, have ramped up again in recent weeks. Some speculate such masks will be the […]
I encountered two groups of divers Saturday at Rosario Beach. I thought the first diver I spotted was a seal, and in fact he and two others were later joined by a curious seal. Pacific Northwest waters are renowned among divers. Lots of color, both plant life and underwater creatures.
Many folks enjoying the wonderful weather of Independence Day 2020 opted to spend time on or near the water. These photos show activity on Bowman Bay, Rosario Bay and Heart Lake.
What better way to enjoy the outdoors while meeting COVID-18 “social distancing” regulations. There was a marked spike in activity on the water Friday afternoon at Bowman Bay, but watersports provided a safe way to exercise and enjoy the sun without worry about a crowd.
This classic Northwest shoreline scene was captured Friday afternoon from the Bowman Bay Trail at Rosario Beach.
