Just as this sailboat sailed away from Anacortes Saturday morning, the year 2006 is sailing away today, Sunday, December 31. This one flew by, didn’t it? I’m beginning to believe my 81-year-old dad, who suggests ever-so-bluntly that the pages of the calendar disappear at an increased speed as one grows older.
If you don’t mind the cold temperatures, winter months can be among the best of the year for Northwest “portraits” like this one, taken Saturday morning from Cap Sante. A lone sailboat moved across the frigid waters of Fidalgo Bay, circling back at one point after I had assumed the skipper was headed toward the […]
This photograph was taken from the sidewalk running along the waterfront near the ESD Building in downtown Anacortes. Visible in the distance are Tesoro Refinery and the foothills leading to Mt. Baker.
There is a table open for you at the beach next door to Seafarers’ Memorial Park on Fidalgo Bay. Bring your picnic basket, dine and enjoy the “traffic” coming in and out of Cap Sante Boat Haven.
Again today I post a photo taken Monday morning from the bluffs of Cap Sante, this shot of a power boat returning to port as a sailboat ventures out. Water color and texture were amazing.

The word is wind today, November 3, as forecasters predict gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. Work on replacement docks at Cap Sante Marina continues. I don’t know whether the sailor in this photo was heading “into it,” or just moving his boat within the safe confines of the marina. I’m thinking the […]
While one sailor wrapped up the last day of August with a relaxing afternoon in the San Juans, it was just another work day for the crew of the tugboat Barbara Foss. This photograph was taken from the Port of Anacortes’ Curtis Wharf.
It was grins all around following the morning launch of this sailboat, handmade just minutes before at one of the most popular corners of the Anacortes Waterfront Children’s Activities area. Set sail for the Cap Sante Marina area on the Anacortes waterfront. Attractions range from food to crafts to live entertainment. Lots of boats, too, […]
