Two years ago on a Saturday morning in August I stopped by Cap Sante Boat Haven with my camera. Among my photos was this one, a favorite for some unknown reason. Maybe it’s the classic lines of the sailboat, or maybe it’s the little green skiff being towed behind. At any rate, I like it, […]
Today I think of my friend Kelvin and his wife, Megan, who are arriving from the heat of the Tri-Cities to spend a week on a boat in the San Juans. This photograph was taken last week from the bluff at Sunset Cove.
This beautiful sailboat was tethered to the dock at Cap Sante Boat Basin amidst all the hustle and bustle of the recent Waterfront Festival. This morning’s skies don’t show much promise of sunshine, but this is the season when thousands descend on Anacortes as one of the most active boating communities in the Puget Sound.

Morning sunlight casts an intricate shadow on the sweeping curves of the deck of sailboat Sophia Christina, moored at Cap Sante Boat Basin.
I encourage you to get up early one of these mornings and take a walk at Cap Sante Marina. It’s an awesome public asset (Port of Anacortes) teeming with beautiful boats and some wonderful people. In this photo, morning light casts shadows over the hull of the sailboat “Endeavor.”
Dining at a waterfront restaurant offers a “dessert” with no calories. Lunch this week at Randy’s Pier 61 on the Guemes Channel provided an opportunity to enjoy a parade of boats, a view of snow-capped Mt. Baker, and even a pair of seals playing hide and seek in the harbor. There was activity at the […]
Traffic on the Guemes Channel is much heavier during summer months. This sailboat motors up the channel with Mt. Baker looming in the background. In the foreground are logs tied up near Randy’s Pier 61 Restaurant. It is not uncommon to discover seals sunning themselves on the logs.
