Fine feathered friends
I can’t imagine a better morning. My “breakfast time” adventure featured opportunities to photograph a number of beautiful Fidalgo Island birds, some of which offered songs. Also part of the morning but not photographed were herons and crows. Mostly little birds, the largest being the flicker.

Fidalgo Island sculptor Tracy Powell has created many high profile pieces, primary of which is the “Maiden of Deception Pass” story pole at Rosario Beach. Watery wonderland
Water levels are very high at the Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve adjacent to the state ferry terminal. Rainfall runoff flows from surrounding highlands to the wetland below, with much of the water ultimately feeding into the saltwater harbor. At last, the sun!
A rainbow appeared briefly over the horizon Thursday afternoon, as viewed from the cul de sac at Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP) on the west side of Anacortes. Note ribbon of fresh water making its way to the sea (lower left hand corner). LOTS of water for the past few weeks.

Recently added at the beautiful Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve in west Anacortes were a number of interpretive signs including “snapshots” of local flora and fauna. Ship Harbor
This aerial of the Ship Harbor area on the west side of Anacortes shows shoreline residential developments including Skyline, Portalis and San Juan Passage, among others. Work is underway to create a waterside trail from the state ferry terminal, with a long-term goal of linking to the Tommy Thompson Trail.
