Conditions change by the hour this Wednesday morning as snow begins to accumulate in Anacortes. The last report I saw said continued snow is less likely this afternoon and evening.
If it’s December it must be time for snow. That was the case Thursday when the snow started falling in Anacortes shortly before lunch. This photograph was taken at 1 p.m. at the top of Commercial Avenue. Don’t know if it will stick, but it’s fun to watch it fall…
We’ve still got several inches of snow up here on the hill, but it’s starting to thaw. I don’t know if there are more robins in the neighborhood after a snow … or whether they just catch my eye against the white background, but there were several yesterday looking for food in our yard and […]
From the low-tech option of plastic garbage bags … to the motorized choice of all terrain vehicles like this … Anacortes people are finding ways to have fun in the snow. See more photos in the Activities section under “Winter Wonderland.”
During the course of the past few months I have taken several photos of this Bill Mitchell mural on the north side of the Calico Cupboard Restaurant. Type in “Tommy Thompson” in the search window above and you’ll note how the seasons change in our little corner of the world. The mural shows Tommy Thompson […]
I was awakened early this morning by the sounds of children laughing on the street outside. I got up to discover the weather reports were correct. We have two or three inches of snow, which brings the sledders out to “O” Avenue immediately. The kids don’t have to hurry, either. Schools are closed today in […]
By noon today there were at least a dozen boys sledding on the “O” Avenue hill adjacent to our home. It’s a favorite among local kids … has been for years. With no school today to mess up their schedules, I’m guessing kids all around Anacortes will bundle up for some fun in the snow.
I’d say I miss the snow, but I’ve got to admit it’s nice to be able to drive around and function at a normal business pace again. This photo wasn’t actually taken yesterday, but a year ago in front of a south side business on Commercial Avenue. I just like the maritime theme…
What started out as a two-hour delay became a full snow day Tuesday in the Anacortes School District as the white stuff continued to fall on top of already icy streets and roads. These teens brought out the big stuff today, tugging a giant inner tube up the hill on “O” Avenue for a team […]
A light dusting of snow became a blanket of white last night, creating a new set of problems for robins like this one. She and her friends perched on the branches of a nearby tree, waiting perhaps in the hope that the morning sun would melt the snow so they could find food. In the […]
Kids of all ages, shapes and sizes descended on “O” Avenue today as snow and ice created a winter playland. It was mostly kids, and mostly traditional snow toys like saucers and sleds … but there were exceptions. A couple of parents showed up with plans other standing watch. Then there was the mountain biker, […]
