A team of welders works on a new vessel under construction at Dakota Creek Industries on the Guemes Channel.
I have deep respect for people who work outdoors, especially in conditions like those we’ve dealt with in recent weeks. Usually I find welders working at Dakota Creek Industries, but I photographed this crew late Thursday afternoon on the roof of the new addition to Island Hospital.
A worker at Dakota Creek Shipyard unhooks a cable from a plate as construction continues on a steel hull. I counted several welders working in the ribbing of the vessel.
Dakota Creek Industries is a hotbed of activity as at least one vessel is under construction and another is in for repairs. This Wednesday afternoon photo features two welders working on a large steel structure section of a future boat. See more photos under “Shipyard activities” in Activities section.
