Walk over water

Downtown Anacortes has its beautiful esplanade through the public marina. Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve near the state ferry terminal boasts this curving boardwalk, allowing walkers to enjoy the wetlands without getting wet!

Ship Harbor wetlands, February 2004, as viewed from ferry terminal staging area. Residential construction prep visible on the hills above. This area became Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP), with beach access and features including boardwalk and interpretive signage.

With higher than usual rainfall numbers in January, the water is high at the Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP) adjacent to the state ferry terminal. Blackbirds are singing!

Recently added at the beautiful Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve in west Anacortes were a number of interpretive signs including “snapshots” of local flora and fauna. Wetland sentinels

Started my morning with a visit to the wetlands area adjacent to the city effluent plant, where cattails stand sentinel over a beautiful pond. The background in this photo is not the sky, but sky reflected in still waters…
