Museum reception

Anacortes Museum supporters and staff gathered Friday, Dec. 8 for the annual Foundation meeting and Holiday Reception. Among those in attendance were Mayor Dean Maxwell and his wife, Lisa. Laura Wynn, whose involvement with the museum dates back 20 years, was honored as Volunteer of the Year. She is pictured here with her parents, Tom and Sylvia Wynn. Retired photojournalist Wallie Funk has provided historic photographs for the museums’s current display. He is pictured here with a large replica of his first camera suspended above. Museum Director Garry Cline built the camera. Foundation President Bret Lunsford noted the non-profit organization has raised about $30,000 toward the purchase and installation of a handicap lift for the museum, which once served the community as a Carnegie Library.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
