Career keepsakes
Among mementos of my late father’s career in politics are campaign buttons, cufflinks, tie bars and commemorative pins. Dad left Anacortes in 1960 to work on the staff of 2nd Congressional District Rep. Jack Westland, a career move that led to more than two decades of work with the Republican Party. After Westland lost his seat to Lloyd Meeds, Dad went to work for the Governor’s Association, the Republican National Congressional Committee and the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. He returned home, as he had always intended, in 1977, closing out his career as a real estate broker.
