The Friends of the Anacortes Library Art Committee presents an exhibit of works by local artists from January 2 through March 2020, in the Friends Community Meeting Room. Artists include: Donald Caldwell, Stephen Cheng, Anne Elkins, Kathleen Faulkner, Audrey Garbacik, Jan Hodgman, Jazz Morgan, Marcia Neu, Cynthia Richardson, Aimee Rudge, and Marcel Schwarb, and Gary R. Smith. Artworks are for sale and will benefit the Friends of the Library. Meet the artists Saturday, January 4, 1 p.m. Public viewing hours: January-March, 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 2nd & 4th Saturdays, 1-2 p.m. The library closes early, at 4 p.m., New Year’s Eve, and will be closed Wednesday, New Year’s Day. A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
