602 Commercial Ave., Red Salon-Aveda Red Salon welcomes artist Christine Hassell for the month of March. She is an artist who is fascinated by the balance, harmony of form and color inherent in the natural world. She uses a limited pallet in oil and pastel and composes impressionistic vistas of land joining water and forested mountains.  Christine, who moved here in 2016, was inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and took a class at the PNW School of Art with Mich Albala, thus launching her adventures in landscape painting.

520 Commercial Ave., Pelican Bay Bookstore & Coffee Shop The bookstore features Anacortes artist Cathy Schoenberg’s mixed media collection. Schoenberg uses paper/collage and inks, as two-part harmony of the uncontrolled liquidity of India inks, and the corralling patterns in white. Small in scale, each piece invites the viewer into a rabbit hole of unlimited imagination.

420 Commercial Ave., Scott Milo Gallery The gallery features new, bold pastels of NW images by Steven R Hill of Lopez Island. Also showing are oils by Karen Bakke, paintings and ceramics by Susan Cohen Thompson, oils by Jennifer McGill and acrylics by John Roser. The gallery will also feature a new selection of glass work and jewelry.

419 Commercial Ave., The Majestic Inn and Spa Pacific Northwest photographer Doug LeClair presents new work with regional images. He uses his photography skills and digital editing to produce prints that inspire you to go outside! Meet the artist at the First Friday reception.

Steve Berentson

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
