Works resumes at Deception Pass Bridge

Painting and special repair work has resumed on Deception Pass Bridge. The two-year project had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The state Department of Transportation reports that travelers should plan for limited parking along SR 20 and sidewalk closures. More parking, with short hikes to the bridge, will be available within Deception Pass State Park. Deception Pass State Park and all businesses in the area will remain open during construction. Those planning spring and summer 2020 trips to Deception Pass State Park should prepare for loud daytime noise and quieter noise overnight during this project.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
