The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce announced Friday afternoon the resignation of longtime President/CEO, Stephanie Hamilton.

Hamilton joined the staff of the chamber in 2005 and was promoted to President/CEO in 2011. She is given credit for organizing the Spring Wine Festival and Bier on the Pier, two of the chamber’s biggest events. Hamilton supported the reconstitution of the Anacortes Boat and Yacht Show into a much larger event and has coordinated the business community’s response to COVID-19.

“Stephanie has worked tirelessly for the chamber and this community. We wish her well in her future endeavors,” said Gina Walsh, the Anacortes Chamber’s Board Chairwoman.

“I am grateful to the board of directors and the community for the opportunity to serve Anacortes’ businesses and this great city,” said Hamilton. “I have been so blessed to work with amazing teams and am certain the staff at the chamber will continue to provide the highest level of professional support.”

Sandy Swartos, current Operations Director, has been appointed interim CEO while the board engages in a regional search for a new CEO.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
