Town Crier looks to Canada in 2021

Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell has confirmed that in the summer of 2021 he will relocate to Nova Scotia, Canada. Richard, a familiar face — and familiar voice — has livened up many community events with his considerable talents. From Opening Day of Boating Season to 4th of July festivities, from Christmas Parade to Waterfront Festival, Richard has kicked off events with his distinctive booming voice and unique “proclamations.” The good news? We still have months to express our thanks to Richard for his service to this island community. Our loss will be Nova Scotia’s gain!

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
