Anacortes restaurants say “Come on down!”

With the governor’s partial lifting of COVID-19 restrictions late last week, local restaurants are excited to invite the community to “come on down” to enjoy indoor dining. Restaurants are still restricted to just 25 percent guest capacity, but they and other businesses operating under months-long restrictions against inside customers are pleased to open their doors once again. As of last weekend all eight regions in the state advanced to Phase 2 under Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery” phased in reopening plan. Among local restaurants again offering indoor seating are Bob’s Chowder & BBQ Salmon and the Rockfish Grill & Anacortes Brewery (see photos).
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
