Marked drop in new housing in 2023

Even though city residents observed a notable level of new housing construction in 2023, statistics from the City of Anacortes report there was actually a sharp drop in the number of new housing permits. There was a total of just 36 new housing permits issued last year, compared to 134 in 2022. Much of the construction activity in 2023 came as a result of permits issued in 2022. There was only one permit for a multi-family unit in 2023, compared to 38 in 2022. There were just 12 single family residence permits compared to 34 in the previous year. See chart for more details.
