Shell bikes to fight MS

Saturday morning came early for these bicyclist volunteers from Shell Puget Sound Refinery. Once again this year, a Shell team participated in the MS150 Ride, an event established to raise money to fight multiple sclerosis. The National MS Society’s vision is: “A World Free of MS.” The Society’s mission is: “We mobilize people and resources […]

Shell Firemen a Hit at Parade

Once again this year, giant inflatable “firemen” from Shell Puget Sound Refinery were a hit among children attending the Anacortes Christmas Parade. Emergency response equipment and personnel from Anacortes and surrounding fire districts also contribute to the Historic Downtown Parade. Many parade entrants give away candy, with Shell volunteers adding plastic bead necklaces to the […]

Shell in Mount Vernon

A couple of dozen Shell Puget Sound Refinery employees and family members contributed to the success of the Sunday evening Christmas Parade in downtown Mount Vernon. In addition to several lighted emergency response vehicles, Shell’s parade entry included volunteers who handed out colorful bead necklaces. Also on hand were the popular inflated “firefighters.” In the […]

Shell on Wheels

Once again this year, Shell Puget Sound Refinery volunteers “saddled up” for the MS150, a fund-raiser to fight multiple sclerosis. Teams departed from the Skagit County Fairgrounds in south Mount Vernon early Saturday morning. Riders gather pledges before the 150-mile ride.

Shell takes part in Christmas parade

> In addition to a parade of emergency response vehicles including fire engines, volunteers from the Shell Puget Sound Refinery count a couple of “big guys” among their ranks during local parades. This giant inflatable firefighter is a big hit, providing “low fives” and many photo ops.

Crowd at Shell

Thanks to John King of Birch Equipment, I got this bird’s eye view of a moment in time at Shell Puget Sound Refinery Saturday morning. Crowds continued to grow as the day progressed. Shell opened its gates to guests for a “Community Appreciation Day,” staffed by about 150 employee volunteers as well as members of […]

Shell cleans up

Shell Puget Sound Refinery made a big-time commitment to the environment last week, both inside and outside the plant fenceline. This crew focused its attention to a 1-mile stretch of Highway 20, “adopted” by the refinery as part of the state’s Adopt-a-Highway cleanup program. Back on Fidalgo Island, another crew took on the assignment of […]

Frost on the shell

After arriving home again this morning from a photo assignment I discovered there were still many garden areas sprinkled with a layer of frost. Don’t know if anybody’s tucked away inside this shell, but if they are I hope they’re protected by some sort of insulation.
