V-Day at Heart Lake

In harmony with the holiday, these kayakers found their way to Heart Lake on Valentine’s Day for an afternoon of exercise and relaxation … with just a bit of paddle training thrown in. Coach was Ken Biddle; students, Kevin, Susan and Linda.

Berry beautiful

Forest trail beckons

When I needed a mid-afternoon break, this forest trail at Heart Lake beckoned. The half hour walk was well worth the time. See “Forest flora two” in Activities section for photographs from my brief jaunt through the woods.

Skunk cabbage

Heart Lake Road is decorated with skunk cabbage, bright green and yellow plants gathered in community among roadside wetlands. Skunk Cabbage is one of the first plants to bloom in the spring, and can bloom anywhere from February to May. See “Heart Lake break” in Activities section for more photos, including ring-necked ducks.
