A solo kayaker approaches the northwest bluff of Pass Island, which lies between Whidbey and Fidalgo islands. His plan was to pause for a few minutes to pump out water taken on during exercises in the Canoe Pass currents.
What a day! A visit to Rosario Beach felt just like a summer excursion. Lots of folks, from hikers and kayakers to picnickers and beach walkers. Sun on the face, clear blue skies. Bring it on!

This kayaker was interested in more than a quiet shoreline cruise. He paddled parallel to the waves and then abruptly turned into them. Up, and over! Then do it again. West Beach, Deception Pass State Park.
