Local artist Bill Mitchell’s train mural provides a colorful backdrop for “Dekade,” a steel sculpture created by Bernard Hosey of Twisp, Washington. Not this weekend, but the next. Mark your calendars now for August 6-8, when tens of thousands will gather for the largest event of the year in this seaside community. These festival characters, up against the wall at Arts Festival headquarters on “O” Avenue, were created by muralist Bill Mitchell.
This colorful outdoor mural, which boasts a sort of “Roaring Twenties” look, features principals from the Anacortes Stage and Taxi Company. Creator of the 5th Street mural, and dozens of others in town, is artist/historian Bill Mitchell. The printing on the back of the vehicle reads: “Licensed carrier and bootleg cab.”
