View from a May 2006 flight, pre-roundabout. Also note row of Grandview Cemetery trees that have since been removed.
It was exciting Sunday afternoon to stumble onto a gathering of classic car/truck owners on Commercial Avenue. They rallied in front of historic Anacortes Marine Supply & Hardware, leaving at 3 p.m. to cruise south on Commercial, around the Highway 20 roundabout and back downtown. Good stuff.
Work continues on the SHIP roundabout, Oakes Avenue. This window shot was taken on the way from Ship Harbor heading back to the downtown area.

Between new paving and the eye-catching “circle” design, the city’s new roundabout is easily located from the air. The roundabout is located on the south side of Commercial Avenue, linking the main thoroughfare with State Highway 20.

This photograph was taken from The Store, looking north. Tentative plans still call for the street to re-open late Friday, July 24.
It’s a hot corner of town, in more ways than one. Wednesday morning found temperatures climbing while construction crews continued hot asphalt work on the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 20 and Commercial Avenue. Landscaping is underway as the project draws to a close.

Plans call for the new intersection with the Highway 20 “spur” to be open to traffic before the first weekend in August. The latest rumor I heard was that work might actually […]
Crews worked late Friday afternoon on the “roundabout” at the south end of Commercial Avenue in Anacortes. Businesses south of 32nd Street continue to suffer reduced customer traffic as the project detours traffic in and out of the city. Please consider making your way to shops and restaurants including The Store and Bob’s Chowder House.
Crews are working diligently at the south end of Commercial Avenue on a “roundabout” project that will dramatically change the driver’s experience at the intersection of Highway 20 and the city arterial. Work is scheduled to be complete by the first weekend of August, in time for the Arts Festival.
