COVID-19 pandemic restrictions continue to take a toll on popular seasonal activities, now including the Anacortes Fourth of July parade and related events. A cancellation notice regarding city-hosted summer events was issued Tuesday, stating in part: “The City has determined that the threat that large-scale events pose to the health of the community is too […]
This Tuesday morning photo from Clearidge demonstrates just how close crews are to completing the SHIP roundabout project started in mid-March. Landscaping crews were still at work, light traffic was flowing smoothly.
On May 1 Anacortes Arts Festival Director Meredith McIlmoyle reported: “We have been doing our best to stay abreast of rapidly changing guidelines as they relate to our industry. As of today, we are still planning a festival. We will continue to do so until our state or local officials tell us we can’t because […]
What better way to enjoy the outdoors while meeting COVID-18 “social distancing” regulations. There was a marked spike in activity on the water Friday afternoon at Bowman Bay, but watersports provided a safe way to exercise and enjoy the sun without worry about a crowd.
Another wonderful hike in the Anacortes Community Forest. Today, Trail 300, including a stretch on private property. Thanks to those who allow the trail to pass through their land.

My trip featured opportunities to photograpph blooming plants as well as shorebirds, geese, rabbits and quail. The views from Rosario Head were stunning, and confirmed that boaters, […]

The late Bill Mitchell, artist and historian, will be memorialized on May 3 with a virtual celebration of Bill Mitchell Day in Anacortes. I think this photo of the muralist posing for a “selfie” dates back to the Eighties. Click Bill Mitchell for details.
A forest hike … and the walk to and from the trail … is a wonderful experience at many levels. I enjoy the opportunities a hike offers in terms of photography, and it is definitely good for me in the exercise and fresh air category. Special treats of this walk included encounters with a downy […]
