The late Bill Mitchell, artist and historian, will be memorialized on May 3 with a virtual celebration of Bill Mitchell Day in Anacortes. I think this photo of the muralist posing for a “selfie” dates back to the Eighties. Click Bill Mitchell for details.
A forest hike … and the walk to and from the trail … is a wonderful experience at many levels. I enjoy the opportunities a hike offers in terms of photography, and it is definitely good for me in the exercise and fresh air category. Special treats of this walk included encounters with a downy […]
Fidalgo Island sculptor Tracy Powell has created many high profile pieces, primary of which is the “Maiden of Deception Pass” story pole at Rosario Beach. He also has art on display out of doors at Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve and Tommy Thompson Trail. To learn more about Tracy, clink on this link.
Given the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, public access to the Skagit Valley’s famous tulip gardens is limited to roadside viewing. I shot these images through an open passenger’s seat window. Check Tulip Town and Roozengaarde websites for photos taken inside the fenceline.
Washington State Ferries (WSF) announces that the Anacortes/San Juan Islands ferry route will return to a four-boat weekday and three-boat weekend regular winter schedule starting Sunday, April 26. The route has been on reduced service since April 10 with the Samish out of service for rudder repairs.
I usually set out from the parking area with hopes of a single “surprise” on my walks at Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve. Monday I tallied three! First I glanced up to see an osprey has returned to its nest after an annual migration. Then I encountered a pair of goldfinches. Finally, on the way back […]
A desire to get some exercise and fresh air turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to see Spring blooms in the forest and on the bluffs of Sharpe Park on the west side of Fidalgo Island. Not sure of some of my plant IDs. Early morning sun was wonderful, but I had to use […]
A hike on a neighborhood trail today yielded new images for my forest “gallery.” Mushrooms, wildflowers, ferns. I heard a couple of woodpeckers, but did not see them. An owl, too. Again, unseen. Spring sun, rising temperatures are bringing beautiful changes each day.
Work continues on the SHIP roundabout, Oakes Avenue. This window shot was taken on the way from Ship Harbor heading back to the downtown area.
What a wonderful adventure! My solo walk at Ship Harbor turned into a hike to wetlands, those exposed on the shoreline and those tucked away near the state ferry terminal. I saw one eagle, one bunny and MANY birds. All shapes and sizes, from hummingbird and kingfisher to blue heron and Canada goose. Many plants […]
First things first: Wow! I love this supermoon photograph taken by Jack Hartt from Lighthouse Point looking east toward Canoe Pass Bridge! Now, more exciting news. “There’s plenty more where that came from,” as Hartt and fellow adventurer Maribeth Crandell host a blog titled: “Hiking Close to Home.” This blog features new posts and a […]
The supermoon drew me out early in the morning, but this scene to the east caught my eye. The spear-shaped cloud appears to end in an “explosion” over the horizon. It’s actually the morning sun.
