There was no need for sunblock, but Shipwreck Day still drew a crowd as downtown Anacortes came alive for the annual “rummage sale” on Commercial Avenue. Bargains included baked goods, musical instruments, toys, tools, cookware and lots more “stuff.”
As has been the case each year since the American Cancer Society Relay for Life hit the Fidalgo Island shoreline, hundreds gathered to raise money to fight the disease. The 18-hour event opened Friday night, with volunteers walking through the night.

The latest addition to this community’s public art collection is “Windsong,” located in the park next door to the Guemes Ferry terminal on 6th Street. This beautiful art piece was created by sculptor Leo E. Osborne, who dedicated Windsong to world peace.
