Pictured here are Jazz Committee Chairman Bill Berry and pianist Jessica Williams. Also featured are the stage and a passing sailboat, plus Steve the sound guy, […]

Morrison loop

Sometimes in my excitement about this island’s beaches and bays, I forget the community’s incredible forestlands and lakes. Recently I reconnected with the forest, taking a leisurely hike on the Morrison Loop Trail to Little Cranberry Lake. Discoveries on the hike ranged from wild berries and lichens to mushrooms and “shedding” madronas. Eye-catching colors ranged […]

Commencement 2007

It was a night of reflection, a night of promise as the AHS Class of 2007 celebrated completion of 12 years of public school. Now it’s off to “the world” for another extraordinary group of young Americans. Also moving down a new road will be AHS Principal Donna Zickuhr (second photo), who retires at the […]

Mural goes up

Local artist Bill Mitchell had fun presiding over the placement of his latest mural, a huge salmon can with leaping salmon. Music on the water

Music is an important part of the Anacortes Waterfront Festival. Among Saturday’s lineup were schoolchildren (Marimba Fever), a blues band (Gail Pettis), an Irish band (Maggie’s Fury) and a male choir (Shifty Sailors) bringing songs of the sea. Don’t miss Sunday’s entertainment on the Main Stage at Cap Sante Boat Haven.
