My grandchildren and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. Midday at Deception Pass State Park, North Beach view of the bridge. Beautiful photo by 14-year-old Hallie.
These hikers opted to celebrate the first weekday of the new year with a hike to Rosario Head, offering sweeping views including Bowman Bay.
Welcome to 2022! Blue skies ahead…
I took advantage of a sunny period to get out for some snow photos, including the gazebo at Causland Memorial Park and also the iconic Anacortes Museum, which was originally a Carnegie Library. Then came a couple (few?) new inches of snow Wednesday night and early Thursday. Perhaps our Christmas snow will last through New […]
Clear skies drew me outside with the camera for some snow shots. Among my stops were Causland Memorial Park and Grand View Cemetery, where I photographed veterans memorial monuments trimmed in snow. The memorial at the cemetery is dedicated to Vietnam veterans, with names of several who died there. The Causland memorial is a tribute […]
It was exciting to receive a series of snow photos from my friend “Air Jaden,” otherwise known as Jaden D’Angelo. While many of us hunkered down to enjoy the Christmas 2021 snow, this talented teen ventured out near Little Cranberry Lake to capture a number of stunning photos from his drone. Thank you for sharing […]
Sometimes “the reason for the season” gets lost in the holiday hubbub. I was pleased to find this beautiful creche in one of the display windows of Burton Jewelers downtown.
What a joy it has been on recent winter days to explore Fidalgo Island trails, beaches and byways. Although gray skies and cold temperatures stifle the initial desire to get outdoors, it is feathered friends such as those pictured in this collection that inspire, offering photo “rewards” for the effort. And all without leaving the […]
These Monday morning walkers were on a mission. I encountered them on Rosario Head, then spotted them a few minutes later on the bluff trail headed for Bowman Bay. Crisp and cold.
New digs for Naung Mai Thai Kitchen restaurant at 2216 Commercial Avenue! Mayor Laurie Gere did the honors Friday morning at a ribbon cutting ceremony for this popular family restaurant, owned by Michael and Issaree Clevenger since 2017. Among those on hand for the event was Anacortes contractor Ian Clark, who worked with the Clevengers […]
Well, it’s actually a gorilla, but “ape” worked better for my header. This is yet another amazing Joe Treat driftwood sculpture! Treat, who lives in Bow, has a number of unique driftwood sculptures already in town, including the popular giraffes at the W.T. Preston. This sculpture is located just off Commercial Avenue in the Pickett […]
A refinery established in 1958 as a Texaco plant has transitioned to new ownership, as evidenced by signs erected last week declaring a welcome to “HollyFrontier Puget Sound Refinery.” The change in ownership of the Anacortes refinery took place officially on November 1, 2021. Operations continue with the same workforce.
