A welcome break in weather drew many to Cap Sante at lunch today, including this gentleman with a digital camera. Boats powered by below, with towering clouds filling the horizon. Somewhere behind the clouds stands Mt. Baker, sure to emerge yet on cool, crisp Northwest days.

Lady Washington and crew motored out of Cap Sante Boat Haven Tuesday about 10:30 a.m. after a few days in Anacortes with companion ship, Hawaiian Chieftain. The tall ship replica is a favorite among boat-watchers in the region. Homeport is Grays Harbor.
This is a great time of year, not only for boaters, but for those like me who like to watch boaters. Activity is at peak levels right now at area marinas including Cap Sante Boat Haven, a pedestrian-friendly, public facility located on Fidalgo Bay near downtown Anacortes.
Generally Great Blue Herons are quite spooky, which means you need a telephoto lens to get a decent “portrait.” This heron, however, hangs out in a high traffic area at a local marina, so he’s more approachable.
