Forest blue

Green is definitely the dominant color in any Northwest forest, but a closer look often reveals a splash of a different color. This dragonfly is part of a large population in a wetlands area of the Anacortes Community Forest Lands (AFCL).

Forest trail beckons

When I needed a mid-afternoon break, this forest trail at Heart Lake beckoned. The half hour walk was well worth the time. See “Forest flora two” in Activities section for photographs from my brief jaunt through the woods.

Leaves line forest trail

It may be a bit cool and damp, but this is also a great time of year for a walk on Fidalgo Island’s forest trails. Waterproof maps are available in the Park and Recreation Department at City Hall.
