Underwater world

Underwater photographer Jim Ramaglia stands beside a public display featuring more than two dozen of his images. His is one of three interpretive displays recently installed along the esplanade at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Other displays include “Back When” and a display about local refineries.

Working on the dock of the bay … Port of Anacortes fuel dock, that is. Construction continued Tuesday on an office/shop at the Cap Sante Boat Haven fuel dock, just inside the marina breakwater.

Sculpture coming

Preparations are well under way for the arrival of another piece of public art in Anacortes. A 20-foot sculpture by Seattle artist Gerard Tsutakawa will soon be placed on this pedestal near the Harbormaster’s Office at Cap Sante Boat Haven.

A visit to historic Curtis Wharf usually offers the opportunity to see a tugboat or two, but on Thursday this Crowley ship was moored there.

Ferry prop

Dock activity is brisk today at the Port of Anacortes. The state ferry Hyak, pictured here, is in drydock. Crowley has a large vessel moored at Curtis Wharf and there is a vessel at Pier II being loaded with petroleum coke from Shell Puget Sound Refinery.

Marina cleanup

Crews work at Cap Sante Boat Haven to remove soil contaminated by leaking fuel tanks discovered and replaced in the 1980s. Uncontaminated soil from the site is being transferred to created a berm at Anacortes Airport. Contaminated soil will be trucked to a hazardous waste site.
