Morning scenes at Ship Harbor

Always a great idea to start the day in one of this community’s natural areas. Today, Ship Harbor, beach and wetlands. I was pleased to encounter a couple of new feathered friends.

Walk in the rain

It was light rain, so I ventured out with camera on Memorial Day morning. A wonderful, if short, walk in the rain. Sweet aroma of wildroses, beautiful music of songbirds.

Quiet harbor

It was quiet on this Saturday at Ship Harbor, site of the state ferry terminal in Anacortes. A Canada goose paddles toward the beach, a recreational boater and the state ferry Elwha in the background. There were only a few cars in the terminal parking lot.

Winged friends on shoreline

What a wonderful adventure! My solo walk at Ship Harbor turned into a hike to wetlands, those exposed on the shoreline and those tucked away near the state ferry terminal. I saw one eagle, one bunny and MANY birds. All shapes and sizes, from hummingbird and kingfisher to blue heron and Canada goose. Many plants […]

Ferry-free harbor

Now that’s a beautiful shade of blue. I shot this photo Tuesday on the beach at Ship Harbor. There was some activity at the state ferry terminal, but there were no boats in sight. Very quiet. A great place to be.

Ferry exit

A state ferry swings toward the San Juan Islands just after leaving the Anacortes terminal at Ship Harbor. For a romantic outing take your favorite person, add picnic lunch and dessert from a local restaurant, purchase walk-on tickets to Friday Harbor and find yourself a quiet table by the window. If time’s an issue, you […]
