Up and down this community’s main drag, banners such as these have been posted in honor of the Anacortes High School Class of 2020. Pictured here on a pole near the Commercial Avenue roundabout are Trevor Beaner, Lorenzo Adams, Cameron Berg and Anderson. Another down the street includes Drew Monson, Kaitlin McLaughlin, Jack Murphy, Quinn […]
It was light rain, so I ventured out with camera on Memorial Day morning. A wonderful, if short, walk in the rain. Sweet aroma of wildroses, beautiful music of songbirds.
Causland Memorial Park in downtown Anacortes was dedicated to local men killed in World War I, including Harry Causland. Unique stone walls and gazebo have distinguished the city block as a community gem since its construction 100 years ago. For acts of bravery that led to his death during a battle in France, Causland was […]
On Friday, May 23 the Skagit County Board of Health sent a letter to Governor Inslee asking that he consider a Phase 2 variance for Skagit County. Skagit County Unified Command, mayors of all eight Skagit County cities and towns, and First Responders sent letters in support of the Board of Health’s request. Text of […]

To see more images, go to AnacortesToday.com and type “Memorial Day” in the search engine. My hope is that on Monday, each […]
I was pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to Deception Pass State Park to discover a group of scuba divers heading for adventure at North Beach. The divers moved in pairs to the beach, then into the water for a dive under the bridge. I was told tidal conditions were perfect: a rare opportunity including […]
On Monday morning I encountered Nigel Davies of Anacortes assembling his Hobie trimaran for a trip to Cypress Island. The beautiful kyak features both sail and pedal system.
I took a walk on Tommy Thompson Trail Tuesday. The trip included encounters with a variety of Northwest birds including a killdeer. Near the Samish Indian Nation recreational vehicle park at Weaverling Spit in Anacortes.
My path from home to forest trails is a city street that becomes more like a country lane. All along, I am treated to a colorful combination of wild plants as well as a variety of flowers, bushes and trees planted by neighbors.
An early morning visit to North Beach at Deception Pass Park put me in a mood for adventure, so I took a trail I’ve never walked before. I was alone from beginning to end — a wonderful hour of discovery. The trail, which leads from the North Beach parking lot toward West Beach and the […]
Fishermen are out. On a visit to Deception Pass Park I viewed folks fishing from North Beach, boat just offshore, and bluff from the base of Pass Island. Traveling in and out of the park I saw many folks fishing lakes including Cranberry, Heart, Campbell and Pass.
What a delight during these Spring days to see all of the new growth, from flowers to trees … and to enjoy the sweet aromas that come with that new growth. Collected here are some images from a recent visit to the Ship Harbor Intepretive Preserve adjacent to the state ferry terminal on the west […]
