One could always count in muralist Bill Mitchell to participate in the annual Anacortes Lions Christmas Parade. This photo was taken in 2006, Bill with salmon and Little Mermaid Ariel, all aboard in his familiar three-wheeled electric vehicle, corn cob pipe in place.
With the traditional Anacortes Tree Lighting event going virtual tonight (Friday, Dec. 4), I thought it would be fun to get aboard the Wayback Machine for some scenes from tree lightings past. Many of those pictured here, including Santa, Mayor Laurie Gere and TJ Fantini, are still actively involved in Chamber of Commerce activities! “Jingle […]
I remember this like it was yesterday: a little guy scratching his head as he shares his wish list with Santa. This was a 2005 Chamber of Commerce Christmas event at the Majestic Inn & Spa.
There have been many changes in this city since August 2009 when this photo was taken, not the least of which are improvements at Seafarers’ Memorial Park and Cap Sante Marina.

Among special guests at the 2011 Port of Anacortes Community Christmas event was this larger-than-life fireman from Shell Puget Sound Refinery. This wonderful evening event, cancelled this year due to coronavirus, has become a rich holiday tradition.

Taylor, who was instrumental in establishing a public hospital district in Anacortes many years ago, was honored in the “Community Volunteer” category. She has served the past 19 years as […]

The Port of Anacortes, owner of the Cap Sante Marina, has made impressive improvements at the downtown marina over the years. These images show dock work under way in December 2005, when shoreside businesses included Captain’s Place Restaurant and Cap Sante Marine. Today the “A” Dock, otherwise known as the commercial dock, is undergoing replacement […]
One of the most memorable trips of my life. An October 2005 adventure to British Columbia with a group of men from my church. We motored up and back to Chatterbox Falls aboard the beautiful sailboat “Makai,” skippered by Dr. Larry Stickles. This photo is not of Chatterbox, but a small “feeder falls” on a […]
I’ve seen my first Christmas commercials on TV, so I guess it’s time to trot out some images from Christmas Past. This shot is from the Anacortes Schools Foundation Christmas fundraiser in 2015, featuring the always popular An-O-Chords men’s choir! The event took place at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center.
