The rest of the story…

It was fun to see 1957 Anacortes Marineers Pageant Queen Judie Lewis Zersen in the recent 4th of July parade. Following the parade, however, I found out her driver/escort was none other than her grandson, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal John Malquist, age 20. Smiles all ’round!

City to return train to Thompson Family

Indications from an unofficial vote of Anacortes City Council members Monday night are that the custom-built Tommy Thompson train will be returned from city ownership back to ownership by the Thompson Family. This one-of-a-kind train was designed, built and operated by Tommy G. Thompson, who died in 1999. The family donated the train to the […]

Lady greets the morning

Seafarers’ Memorial Park, adjacent to Cap Sante Marina, is a wonderful place to visit. In addition to a monument listing the names of men who have died at sea, the park is home to the “Lady of the Sea.” This sculpture by Deborah Copenhaver was commissioned by the late Ray Separovich, identified on the sculpture […]

Cool mornings return

How refreshing the past several mornings to venture out to cool morning scenes such as this one at Bowman Bay. Typical summer days often feature haze or fog that “burns off” to comfortable temperatures and blue skies.

Classic 1924 firetruck on the road

What an exciting surprise this morning to find this classic beauty motoring north on Commercial Avenue. By the time I turned around these gents were in front of City Hall. This is a 1924 American LaFrance, restored over years by a dedicated team of volunteers. Hoping to get details on the fact that she’s up […]

Gliding across the bay: 2004

This post was made in 2004 but I think the image might be even older than that. Rowers in the “Glide,” a beautiful wooden boat based at Cap Sante Marina.
