With the North Beach parking lot at Deception Pass State Park closed for the season, many hikers opt to access this area from a trail descending from the North Whidbey bridge parking area. Views from the trail are well worth the energy expended to hike down … and up again.

With higher than usual rainfall numbers in January, the water is high at the Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP) adjacent to the state ferry terminal. Blackbirds are singing!
