Excuse the pun, but there appears to be “light at the end of the tunnel.” Evidence at Deception Pass indicates paint crews are closing in on the end of a high exposure project that dates back to 2019. Guardrails on the Highway 20 spans are just about finished, with just a short stretch of rail […]

My afternoon hike at Rosario featured a few minutes with a family of river otters. The group of six or seven started on the dock, moving to the water. A couple of the adults headed from water up the rocky shoreline, but ultimately all moved back into the water and slipped around the corner.

Recently installed at Kiwanis Waterfront Park in Anacortes is “Continental Drift,” a spherical piece created by Steve Lloyd. This artwork, composed entirely of driftwood collected in this region, joins Leo Osborne’s “Windsong,” located just down the beach at the edge of the Guemes Channel. No bald eagles this morning, but lots of other feathered friends on Tommy Thompson Trail and March’s Point. I was particularly pleased to see the tern and couple of hawks. A great way to start the day on beautiful Fidalgo Island!

Demonstrations ranged from single ship fighter to a 4-plane formation of T-6s, including a “missing man” formation. There were also static displays and […]
