I like this shot of the bow of the “Neil Armstrong,” a research vessel built by our own Dakota Creek Industries. For details, click on link.

As you can see from this photo taken in 2013, this Campbell Lake barn was on its way out. Today it has collapsed. The barn was an “old friend,” a reminder of days gone by on many trips to and from Anacortes.
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. Anacortes Museum Director Bret Lunsford notes that while the museum is closed indefinitely to help contain the spread of the coronavirus, many resources are available online at: museum.cityofanacortes.org. For example, check out a new article on the Anacortes influenza outbreak of 1918, Spanish Influenza in Anacortes by Curator of […]
I saw this image last week on a Facebook group page dedicated to historic photos from around the state. This is a 1940 photo of the Lake Washington bridge named in honor of Lacey V. Murrow. Two facts of local interest: 1) Lacey was the older brother of famous CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow, who […]

Classic Northwest scene: ten years ago I shot this photo of two regional icons: Mt. Baker and state ferry Yakima.
A search of photo archives provided this reminder that the National Guard makes disaster response a regular part of their training routine. This drill sponsored by the Air National Guard took place in Anacortes in August 2009. A caption read: “Camouflage gear and decontamination suits caught the eyes of passersby on “M” Avenue Friday as […]
