Spokane hockey

These 1974 (or ’75) photos represent a major sentimental journey in terms of my photography career. I was in Pullman, a senior with an opening in my schedule, so I signed up for a photography course. I borrowed my friend Keith Thurman’s 35 mm camera and on this occasion, headed for an amateur hockey game […]

Fond memories

I remember when Election Day called for a visit to a neighborhood polling place. This photo was taken at Island View Elementary School in 2004, before mail-in ballots became The Method of casting one’s votes. Pictured here are “judges” Verna Berentson (left) and Sally Starnes, with “inspector” Joyce Baker looking on. Baker reported at that […]

Greetings from Anacortes!

I had the opportunity once again this year to produce a couple of postcards for the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center (VIC). Mary Talosi and a crack team of volunteers meet and greet community guests on a regular basis at the Commercial Avenue tourist information center. On occasion, they give away a postcard, […]

What’s up at the Port

Hot off the press today is the November issue of “Inside the Port of Anacortes,” a one-page newsletter highlighting activities in the local port district. Among other things in this issue are 1) news of the Sunday, November 11 Veterans Day celebration at Causland Park and the Port Transit Shed and 2) an invitation to […]

50-year history at a glance

Look to the centerfold of the latest issue of Island Hospital “Heartbeats” magazine to see a fascinating “condensed history” of the public hospital established here in 1962. Visit the newly-designed hospital website to learn more, not only about history but about current events: http://www.islandhospital.org/

Truth in advertising

I attended a meeting at the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps this morning, and was impressed by the message on the electronic reader board: “Our church is prayer conditioned.”

Port shares news

Click on this link to read the most recent issue of the Port of Anacortes community newsletter. It is my privilege to work with the Port district, which has served this region since 1926. It was no surprise to me to learn the Port has been recognized once again for excellence, this time by the […]

Mt. Erie owl

From my digital “scrapbook,” discovered today while looking for Fourth of July images for a friend. This little guy greeted me in 2004 as I descended the road from Mt. Erie. I was just telling my friend this a.m. how painful it is to review photos from original digital camera days. There was a reason […]

Cleaning up

It’s a working weekend for a number of employees at Dakota Creek Industries, including these pressure washers working on twin propellers on the tugboat Valor.

Old Man

One of my favorites photographs from a boat trip to Chatterbox Falls British Columbia in October 2005. Friend James Stover nicknamed the heron “The Old Man.” The light was great and the subject incredibly patient.
