I usually opt for weekday adventures with the camera. As Friday morning pushed toward noon I shared Deception Pass beaches and Rosario tide pools with a growing number of people, including a couple of fellow photographers. What else could I expect in such a beautiful “neighborhood?”

Add this hike to your to-do list of summer adventures! Lottie Bay, accessible on a well-marked trail from Bowman Bay on south Fidalgo Island. If you’re up to it, a trail offshoot leads to Lighthouse Point.

I’m always excited to see a river otter. On this occasion, I came over a rise on a bluff trail to spot this family of otters on the beach below. They didn’t stay long, even though I was above them at a considerable distance. Into the water they went, swimming east toward Deception Pass.

Typically Cranberry Lake at Deception Pass Park is crazy busy at this time of year. Given COVID-19 restrictions, however, most activity has taken place on weekends. Regardless, an early morning visit to this beautiful corner of our awesome neighborhood park yields greater opportunity for a peaceful walk. There is much to enjoy.
