Another gorgeous morning on Fidalgo Island. I took the opportunity to hike at Rosario Beach.
With summer vacation in the rear view mirror traffic is lighter again on local waters, beaches and trails. This is a south Fidalgo scene.
I love the west side of Fidalgo Island, from beaches and shoreline trails to weather worn evergreens and high bluffs. This is a corner of Rosario, part of Deception Pass State Park.

With the number of summer days dwindling, this family took advantage of sunshine to visit the tidepools at Rosario Beach. The area is monitored by staff from Deception Pass State Park.

The harlequin on the left was already established on his shoreline perch when a buddy decided to paddle out to join him. A lot of wave action, but not enough to push them from their spot. Rosario Beach.

My afternoon hike at Rosario featured a few minutes with a family of river otters. The group of six or seven started on the dock, moving to the water. A couple of the adults headed from water up the rocky shoreline, but ultimately all moved back into the water and slipped around the corner.

I was fortunate to encounter this seal on the edge of a bluff at Rosario this morning. Big! And so impressively agile under water. I had about two minutes of quality time before he departed for deeper waters.
I’m guessing most area parks were busy Tuesday as sunshine and spring break prompted people to get outside! At Rosario I spotted picnickers, beach walkers, tidepool explorers, kayakers, fishermen, families … and even a couple of small dogs sharing a paddleboard with their favorite human (definitely on a short leash).
