It was such a beautiful afternoon I decided to take a drive around the northeast part of the island. I was rewarded with this sighting of a bald eagle, perched in a tree overlooking Fidalgo Bay.
The Port of Anacortes was established in the Twenties with a goal of boosting the local economy . Almost 100 years later the mission remains the same, with success as evidenced this week by a cargo ship at Port Pier 2 on the Guemes Channel. An outgoing shipment of petroleum coke means revenue for the […]
I always bring my camera when I take a walk around water. Monday’s walk featured hooded mergansers and a great blue heron on a downtown pond. At Cap Sante Marina I saw the usual seagulls and crows … but I was also pleased to find two kingfishers and a shoreside heron. Fidalgo Island: for the […]
It was a total team effort Saturday afternoon for the Anacortes High School boys basketball team. Every player had the opportunity to contribute to a 101-67 victory over Ferndale to wrap up the regular season on the way to playoffs. I came to grips with this fact many years ago: Anacortes is an absolutely amazing community set in one of the most breathtaking corners of the Pacific Northwest. We are destined to welcome new neighbors as they draw the same conclusion and opt to make Anacortes home. (Aerial photo: 2006. Statistics, censusreporter.org)
Few people know that the community of Anacortes was once honored with a 5-day visit by U.S. Frigate Constitution, affectionately referred to as “Old Ironsides.” The masted vessel dropped anchor in Anacortes in 1933 during a rare Pacific Coast tour. A program from the event includes a note from Chamber of Anacortes President Ed Schwartz. […]
The Port of Anacortes recently published statistics from 2023 activities. Last year there were 304,458 metric tons of products moved over Port docks. Jobs on Port property total 1,100. Click here for a copy of the Port’s 2024 budget document, which includes a report from Commission President Bonnie Bowers. (Photo of ship being loaded with […]
