This was the scene Friday afternoon at the base of the gangway at Cap Sante Boat Haven. The marina will come alive March 29 and 30 as hundreds of people gather to compete in the 2008 Anacortes Salmon Derby.

Spring Boat Show

Hundreds of guests stepped aboard dozens of boats over the last three days as local business people hosted the spring edition of the Anacortes Floating Boat Show. This free event is held at Cap Sante Boat Haven, one of the busiest public marinas in the Northwest.

Sculpture coming

Preparations are well under way for the arrival of another piece of public art in Anacortes. A 20-foot sculpture by Seattle artist Gerard Tsutakawa will soon be placed on this pedestal near the Harbormaster’s Office at Cap Sante Boat Haven.

Walking the dog

A pedestrian-friendly Cap Sante Boat Haven is about to get even friendlier with pending completion of a new stretch of esplanade (walkway) between the Harbormaster’s Office and the boat launch. This gentleman and his dog took the opportunity Thursday to enjoy a brief splash of sunshine.

New wall

Shoreline riprap at Cap Sante Boat Haven has been replaced by this retaining wall as part of a cleanup project on Port of Anacortes property between the Harbormaster’s Office and the boat launch.

Marina cleanup

Crews work at Cap Sante Boat Haven to remove soil contaminated by leaking fuel tanks discovered and replaced in the 1980s. Uncontaminated soil from the site is being transferred to created a berm at Anacortes Airport. Contaminated soil will be trucked to a hazardous waste site.
