Boats on display

The weather isn’t quite the same as Friday’s when I took this photo, but the boats are still lined up and ready for guests at the free Oct. 5-7 Anacortes Boat Show at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. See www.anacortesboatshow.com for details.

Demolition begins

A heavy equipment operator took the first “bite” out of a building today as the Port of Anacortes kicked off a demolition and contamination cleanup project at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Demolition of buildings is required due to underground contamination that dates back more than 20 years. The cleanup will be funded in part by […]

Light on water

A midday visit to Cap Sante Friday yielded views of sunshine “spotlighting” Fidalgo Bay as stormclouds to the west gave way to sunny skies in the east.

To the point

Construction activity drew me to V Avenue on Cap Sante. Once there, the view over the Guemes Channel and Fidalgo Bay kept me in place long enough to capture this image of a boater returning to Anacortes.

Quiet time

Some look at a person without companionship and think “lonely.” I believe solitude is healthy, if “taken in moderation.” If a bit of down time is your goal, Cap Sante is a great little spot to gaze out upon our corner of the world. Other great getaways in the neighborhood include Mt. Erie, the “Loop […]

Sunset silouette

Cap Sante is always a beautiful vantage point to look down on the city, but it is particularly inviting this time of year, as evidenced by this evening image. Good weather brings people, who in turn attract seagulls in search of snacks. More than one of my photographs included friendly gulls sweeping past … probably […]

Marina banners

The Port of Anacortes, a partner in many community events and activities, has provided pole banner space to the Anacortes Arts Festival. Visit the central dock at Cap Sante Boat Haven in downtown Anacortes to see recent upgrades including ramps, lights and benches. Don’t forget the beautiful compass rose decorating the surface of the dock […]

Summer morn

This deer in a field at the base of Cap Sante is obviously accustomed to “neighbors.” The two of us were enjoying a welcome splash of summer sun on Tuesday morning.

Port ponders

Bob Hyde, Executive Director of the Port of Anacortes, made introductory remarks Wednesday night at a public meeting regarding plans for improvements at Cap Sante Boat Haven. About 50 people attended the meeting at Seafarers’ Memorial Park Building on the Fidalgo Bay shoreline. This was the latest in a series of sessions encouraging the public […]

The Rapture

I was impressed earlier this week when The Rapture motored in to Cap Sante Boat Haven. The vessel, homeport Newport Beach, California, is big, to say the least, and the skipper did an awesome job of maneuvering around. I’d love to hear the story behind the boat’s name.

Walk on the dock

I highly recommend a walk on the dock at Cap Sante Boat Haven, the downtown marina owned and operated by the Port of Anacortes. This public port facility is just that: public. If the docks don’t appeal to you, stick to the esplanade, or to the wonderful shoreline path leading from the North Basin laundry/shower […]

Turf issues

I was at Cap Sante Boat Haven Thursday evening when I noticed a bald eagle sweeping past. On his tail were two or three seagulls, apparently upset about the eagle’s presence. The eagle took a perch atop the mast of a commercial vessel, and one of the seagulls continued a harassment flight pattern for a […]
