Marine gem

Today would be a perfect day to grab a cup of coffee or a sack lunch and head to Cap Sante Boat Haven in downtown Anacortes. The marina, owned and operated by the Port of Anacortes, boasts a new, pedestrian-friendly look including lights, benches, ramps and banners. Check out the compass rose embedded in the […]

Cap Sante construction

I counted at least five new construction or major renovation projects on Cap Sante over the weekend. This photograph was taken near the parking lot of Randy’s Pier 61 Restaurant. The sound of nail guns resounds through neighborhoods all over the city, and with our moderate weather, the construction season runs pretty much year-round.

Unobstructed view

This view from above the Highway 20 spur helps to illustrate the importance of the boating industry in Anacortes. Visible in the center is Anacortes Marina, and beyond that, Cap Sante Boat Haven. The other major marina is at Skyline, where some boat slips lie in homeowners’ back yards.

Washington blues

I found this photo in my files from last year and immediately made it my wallpaper on my computer. Shot was taken from Cap Sante, a great vantage point on our area no matter what the season. Welcome to spring! Brace yourself for sunshine and blossoms…

Ready to launch

Once again, the Port of Anacortes Cap Sante Boat Haven is served by a boat launch. Port officials hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon with a Nordic Tug vessel in the sling of a new boat launch that became operational this week. Among those in attendance were Port staff, project contractors, port commissioners Steve […]

Northwest hues

A key element (no pun intended) in the making of lush winter scenes like this one, is rain like that we are experiencing today. Many of our fellow Americans in the Midwest and Northeast are dealing not with inches, but with FEET of snow and ice as they struggle to go about their daily business. […]

Up and out

Kudos to this adult, who I’ll call “Dad,” spotted Saturday at 9 a.m. from my vantage point at Cap Sante. Rather than sleeping in while his kids watched TV, this dad opted to dress the youngsters and head for Rotary Park on the northeast corner of Cap Sante Boat Haven. It’s a short walk along […]

Water on top

Water in a pool among rocks on Cap Sante reflects the blue of the Saturday sun. In the background are trees including the distinctive madrona.

Wishbone docks

What a beautiful scene … the “Wishbone” docked at Cap Sante Boat Haven Thursday afternoon. This vessel’s owner is from Whitefish, Montana.

Welcome sunshine

I was up early Saturday morning, and out of the house in time to enjoy the light of the rising sun. When days are short it’s nice to enjoy as much daylight as possible. This city perspective is familiar to most … the view from Cap Sante on the northeast corner of the city.

Public marina

There have been impressive developments at Cap Sante Boat Haven, the downtown marina owned and operated by the Port of Anacortes. Recent improvements include new docks and a pedestrian-friendly main entrance that features new railings, benches and a beautiful inlaid compass rose. A new boat launch will be installed within the next few months, and […]
